as part of my whole lose weight-feel better regime, i've joined a gym. so has boo, but this bit is about me. apart from going to workout on the bikes/weights etc which we plan to do together, i'm joining various classes. on tuesday i went to yoga. it's supposedly 'for all levels' and i was completely unaware that it's a series of courses and they were part way through a course when i barged in uninvited. turns out that's ok, the teacher doesn't mind. but the class was extending their understanding of breathing and several positions by joining them all together in one flowing movement. as i knew nothing about any of the parts that make up this (rather beautiful, actually) movement, it proved rather tricky to follow. but, amazingly enough, i didn't feel like an ungainly fat elephant. and though i may have looked like one i'm betting that everyone else was too busy trying to stand on one leg to notice me.
the teacher is an absolute love. he was very kind and patient, showing enough support (motivational and physical) without bringing too much attention to me. and i'm completely enamoured of it. so much so that i've started buying the necessary accessories.
so what do i know?
- all the signs point to it being hatha yoga
- it's bloody hard
- moisture wicking is not a faddy stupid name for sportswear, it really does help keep you dry
- having the positions and movements referred to in their original (presumably sanskrit) names makes it harder to follow
- the next day your arms ache
- the day after that your arms seize up completely and your shoulders, stomach, thighs ache
- despite it being hard work it is indeed relaxing and enjoyable
cool. looking forward to next week.
