saturday: despite having horrendous hangovers, boo and i managed to buy drill bits and the other necessary gubbins for doing a bit of diy. got hayfever prescription so hopefully my snivelling and coughing will ease soon and - saving best for last - bought some new bras :) oh and then a big tesco shop, so not quite best till last. made dinner, killed some orcs, went to bed early.
sunday, after lie-in with green tea and the archers omnibus (the tea arrived in the post on saturday, at last, after three long days with no green tea in the morning.) then big breakfast we set to our tasks. it took a while but by mid-afternoon we had four new curtain poles up. the curtains still need hemming but i'll do that this coming weekend (which i have made extra andrex long by adding a day either side) the difference in the quality of light and sound in the bedroom is quite amazing. the echoes have gone and the whole place feels cosy and enclosed, private and sanctuary like. i am very happy. next up are new cushions for the bed and at least one picture on the wall. not decided if we are going to have the klimt kiss (colourful and gold leaf shiny) or a picasso line drawing - there are a few i rather like (very simple, understated). i think the latter suits the mood of the room better. it is very calm.
adding the curtains to the living room hasn't changed it much but the windows are sort of hazy behind the new sheer curtains (a good thing, as they are quite scruffy) but you still get maximum light and full view of the buildings on the other side of the road.
hopefully next weekend we'll sort out the balcony, get it cleaned, rearrange the plants and put up the retractable washing line. that's the practical bit. but we hope that we will also be able to use the space for having a drink in the evening (we bought some outdoor lanterns, so i hope this works out!)
then my next project is the loo. it's a separate loo and it's drab and depressing, frankly. i hope to paint it, change the loo seat and get it stuffed to the brim with kitsch. begoņa (for those who don't know she is the patron saint of the basque country. anna and i take it in turns to look after her. she's about 20cm tall, complete with halo) is already in there along with 'the library' of short stories, retro gamer and linux format mags, my interior design mags and, when i find it, the bible. we are going to put magnetic paint on the door and put the magnetic poetry there.
living room fireplace is finally done.decided against paying 200 quid for an antique over-mantle mirror and bought a cheap modern, silver leaf, chunky framed thing instead. i bought some slate tiles and pebbles and have half a dozen different sized pillar candles amidst the pebbles on the hearth. looks lovely in the evenings.
um. so you are all up to date with flat interior decorating status. you can rest easy now :)
